Buyback Event Takes More Than 360 Guns Off Monmouth County Streets
Residents were able to sell guns anonymously to the county prosecutor's office.

A two-day gun buyback program operated by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office resulted in the removal of more than 360 guns from the streets, according to a report.
A report on NJ.com on the buyback -- conducted Friday and Saturday at the county prosecutor’s office in Asbury Park, and at the New Point Comfort Firehouse in Keansburg -- said 360 guns, ranging from handguns to an Uzi, were taken off the streets.
The program took place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all guns were paid for in cash, ranging from $25 for a shotgun or rifle, to $200 for an assault weapon, according to the report.

“Once we get the gun, we do run the serial numbers just to make sure it’s not stolen. If it’s stolen, we return that weapon to its rightful owner,” said Charles Webster, spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, told NJ.com. Webster said if the weapon is not stolen, it gets destroyed.
