The Matawan Recreation Department with Washington Engine Co. #1 is casting out an invitation to kids ages 0–15 for our annual Kids Fishing Derby & BBQ, where the fish are biting, the laughs are flowing, and someone definitely thinks they will catch a shark.
When: June 6, 2026 10 AM - 12:30 PM
Where: Lake Lefferts Park (Ravine Drive, Matawan)
Prizes given in age groups (0-3, 4-7, 8-11, 12-15) for: Biggest fish and Smallest fish (Yes, both matter equally in this very scientific competition)
And when the fishing wraps up, join us for Hot dogs, chips & drinks provided by Washington Engine Co. #1.
NJ Fish & Wildlife will be on site with fun resources reminding kids to get “hooked on fishing, not drugs”.
Bring your best fishing skills, or just your best “I totally meant to do that” energy.
