Patch wrote about the incident when it first happened and interviewed the QuickChek employee who saw the man talking to the boys. She said both boys are under 12 and regularly come into the QuickChek together on their bikes to buy afternoon snacks, especially now that school is out for summer. She said the man followed the boys into the store and immediately began talking to them and following them around, offering to buy them their snacks. He wanted to take them to his car, where he said he had baseball caps and fidget spinners, and he kept asking the boys their parents' names. The boys got scared and told the QuickChek worker the man was bothering them. He said he thought they were lost and he wanted to return them home to their parents. Police were called, but the man was gone by the time they got to the store Thursday afternoon.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Old Bridge Police Chief William Volkert said cash rewards are being offered to anyone who wants to provide information anonymously, by contacting Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County Inc. via phone or website. The phone number is: 1-800- 939-9600. The website is: middlesextips.com. Text messages may be sent to 274637 (CRIMES) with the keyword ‘’midtip’’ followed by a message.
