Celebrate the Mysteries of the Holiday Season with Arcadian Chorale

The Chorale will present "O Great Mystery" on Dec. 17

The Arcadian Chorale will present “O Great Mystery,” a concert of music celebrating the mysteries of the holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 8:00 p.m. at the St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church located at 16 McLean Street in Freehold.

The program is inspired by O Magnum Mysterium, a motet and mass setting by the great Spanish Renaissance master, Tomas Luis de Victoria. Other early works include Die Stimme des Herren (The Voice of God) by Heinrich Schütz, and Mirabile mysterium (Wondrous Mystery), a beautiful piece by the unknown Italian composer, Paolo Cima.

The Chorale will also offer contemporary works on the theme of mystery, including And I Saw a New Heaven by Stephen Chatman, From the End of the Earth by Alan Hovhaness, and Ubi Caritas, by Giancarlo Aquitanti. In celebration of the joys and mysteries of Chanukah, the Chorale offers Pit’chu Li (Open the Gates) by Robert Applebaum and Ocho Kandelikas, a lively Ladino song arranged by Joshua Jacobson.
