On April 8th, 2015 over 40 Bayview Elementary School students, teachers, and faculty gathered their energy and courage to conquer the indoor rock climbing walls at The Gravity Vault Middletown in support of the local Bayview PTA. Students ranged from kindergarten to 5th grade, as long as they met the gym’s five year old minimum age requirement. A portion of each student climber’s entry pass went directly to this parent group, which helps to subsidize unfunded items on the school’s budget. The students were paired with experienced staff members that coached them through the climbing process and encouraged them to push their limits on many of the challenging walls within the gym.
After nearly two hours of climbing, students, parents, and faculty alike left with a feeling of accomplishment for tackling the rock climbing walls and for raising money for their school. Bayview Elementary PTA Chair President Krista Duno remarked,
“It was extremely organized and well run and most importantly, the staff was happy to see us and they were very nice, helpful and encouraging to the children! … A lot of kids were nervous but gave it a try and were very proud of themselves!”
