ABERDEEN, NJ-- In partnership with the DEA, the Aberdeen Police Department will hold a prescription pill take back day on Oct. 22.
You can drop off any expired, unwanted or unused prescription pills or patches. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, unfortunately. The service is anonymous, no questions asked, and free of charge.
Last April the DEA collected over 893,000 pounds of prescription drugs. Over the course of eleven Take Back days, over 6.4 million pounds of drugs have been turned in.

Prescription drugs, particularly opiates, can be a gateway to more serious drugs, like heroin.
"Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards," a press release from Aberdeen police said.
