Molly Pitcher: Icon of Courage

Celebrate Women’s History Month with us by stepping back in time to meet Mary Ludwig Hays, also known as Molly Pitcher.

During the Battle of Monmouth, Mary earned the named Molly Pitcher by carrying water from a small stream to the patriots in the field. When her husband was wounded during the battle she courageously joined his cannon crew to keep the gun firing for the remainder of the long, hot afternoon.

Although she doesn’t have a cannon in her home in Carlisle Pa., using her ordinary kitchen wares, she will instruct the audience in all the required steps for firing a Revolutionary era cannon! Molly Pitcher is the story of the resourcefulness and the indomitable spirit of all patriotic women.
