First-Ever Ramadan Crescent Lighting At Old Bridge Town Hall Next Week

This is the first time Old Bridge Township hosted an event for Ramadan. The crescent will remain lit outside the civic center.

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — There will be a Ramadan crescent lighting at the Old Bridge Civic Center Monday, Feb. 16.

The event will go from 5 - 7 p.m. Monday at the Old Bridge civic building, 1 Old Bridge Plaza.

This is the first time Old Bridge town hall hosted an event for Ramadan. The crescent will remain lit outside the Old Bridge civic center through the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which starts Feb. 17 and runs through March 19.

Freshta Taeb, a woman who ran as a Democrat for New Jersey Assembly in Legislative District 12 (the towns of Allentown, Englishtown, Helmetta, Jackson, Manalapan, Matawan, Millstone, North Hanover, Old Bridge, Plumsted, Roosevelt, Spotswood and Upper Freehold) is one of the organizers. Taeb is currently a Committee member for the Middlesex County Democratic Committee.

"This special evening will bring together local leaders, families and community members to mark the beginning of Ramadan in a spirit of inclusion and togetherness," she said. "The program will include remarks from community representatives, the ceremonial lighting of the crescent and opportunities to engage with residents and attendees."

Other towns across New Jersey are similarly marking the Islamic holiday of Ramadan with crescent lightings outside town halls, such as Bloomfield, West Orange and Bergenfield.
