Former Monmouth County Mayor Pleaded Guilty To Child Sex Abuse, Report Says

Matthew V. Scannapieco has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child in Delaware, a published report says.

The former mayor of Marlboro, who already served prison time for bribery, has now pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child in Delaware, according to a published report.

In May, Matthew V. Scannapieco pleaded guilty to continuous sexual abuse of a child, rape and unlawful sexual contact, the Asbury Park Press reported, quoting the Delaware Department of Justice.

He admitted to police that he sexually abused the girl between 2005 and 2008, according to the Press.

He is in custody in Delaware and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 4, the newspaper reports.

Scannapieco was the mayor of Marlboro from 1992 until 2003. In 2008, he was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for accepting some $245,000 in bribes from a developer, NJ.com said.

He was released from prison in 2010, the Associated Press reported.
