Come join us to make your very own patriotic wreath using clothespins and a metal floral frame. We provide the materials and guide you through the construction of this easy and colorful craft. Participants must be MAPL cardholders and at least 18 years-old.

Wednesday, July 10 @ 4 pmDrop In Craft: Galaxy Tiles

Find out what's happening in Matawan-Aberdeenfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Drop by for this craft on the fly. We will use Sharpies, rubbing alcohol, and acrylic paint to make abstract images on tile. Swirl and sprinkle with stars and you have a GALAXY TILE. No registration required.

Interested in learning yoga, but have difficulty getting down on the floor? Now you too can enjoy all the benefits of yoga without having to get on a mat. You will learn many yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation and relaxation while seated in a chair. The class will be taught by Danielle Meany, RYT. All levels welcome. No experience or equipment is necessary.

Participants must be at least 18 years-old and preference will be given to Matawan Aberdeen card holders.

Unlike most book clubs where everyone reads the same thing, at B.Y.O.B. you pick the titles you want to read. We will choose a new theme each quarter and then YOU choose a title to read and discuss. Join MAPL librarians as we launch this new book club!

The United States and Russia were Cold War rivals competing for dominance in spaceflight during the mid-20th century. Walter Choroszewski outlines the history of this competition from Russia’s first success with Sputnik in 1957 to America’s triumphant Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. Walter shares surprising details of other lunar missions which were not made public at the time. He also gives credit to science fiction authors of the 19th century that inspired the many brilliant thinkers who collectively turned this fantasy into reality!

What are your plans for the summer?

Going to a concert in the park? Catching a ballgame? Tired of uncomfortable seats? Come to the library to make a comfy cushion you can take on the go. We’ll also make an easy breezy fan to keep you cool in the summer sun!

The rise in popularity of mug cakes, indulgent desserts using a mug instead of a cake pan and “baked” in a microwave, is not much of a surprise given how easy they are to make and how quickly you can go from wanting one to eating one! This demonstration-style class will show you how to make and customize your own mug cakes, which we’ll then eat with a variety of delicious toppings!

Participants must be MAPL cardholders and at least 18 years-old.

Monday, July 29 @ 7 pmBad Art Night: A Freestyle Craft Event for Adults

Do you avoid making art because you don’t think you have skill? This is the program for you! Everyone will have access to a pile of ridiculous craft and art materials. Participants work on their “art” for 45 minutes and in the final 15 minutes we’ll set up a Bad Art Exhibition. Everyone can browse and cast 3 votes for their favorite pieces of Bad Art. At the end of the night, the “worst” piece of art will win a hideously tacky trophy as well as a great gift card.

Monday, July 31 @ 7 pm Yoga Basics

This class is great for the beginner or experienced student as we give variations for all levels. Focusing on movement integrating breath, awareness, and alignment you will build strength, focus, flexibility, and balance for both mind and body. The class will be taught by yoga instructor, Carrie Palamara. Please bring your own yoga mat or large towel as well as a bottle of water.

Must be at least 18 years-old to participate.
