In 1940’s UK, African Prince Seretse Khama plans to marry a white British clerk. Their marriage was challenged by both their families and the British and South African governments. South Africa, having introduced the policy of apartheid, found the idea of a biracial couple ruling a neighboring country intolerable. South Africa warned the British: thwart the couple or be denied access to South African uranium and gold and face the risk of South Africa invading Botswana.
