Further Improvements at the Matawan Aberdeen Library!

Making your Library even better with new lighting, HVAC and a back yard beautification project.

The Matawan Aberdeen Public Library is pleased to announce that it has completed a partnership with the State of New Jersey through its Direct Install program to upgrade all of the Library’s lighting to more energy-efficient LED fixtures, and has replaced some of their older and outdated HVAC units. Hutchinson Construction completed the work this spring, and due to the Direct Install program’s contribution, the Library paid only 30% of the $60,000+ project. There will also be a significant cost savings in energy bills now that the project is completed.

Also in progress is a plan to beautify the lot behind the Library building. In memory of one of the Library’s former Board of Trustee members, Marla Sieman, who passed away last fall, the Library will be installing an area of pavers, plants, small trees and a gazebo, where small library programs can be held, and library patrons can sit and read. Mrs. Sieman served on the Board from 2001-2017, and made great contributions of her time and energy. She is remembered fondly by the Board and staff members, so this seemed like a fitting tribute. The Friends of the Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library have contributed the funds for the gazebo, and the Library will sell engraved pavers this fall to defray the remaining costs of the project. Mrs. Sieman’s former colleagues at the Matawan Aberdeen Middle School, and members of her book club have also made contributions. The addition of this garden area will make the space more attractive and safer for patrons entering the Library from the parking lot. (Individuals interested in purchasing a paver should send an email to kpaone@lmxac.org.)

Kimberly Paone, Director of the Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library, stated: “Over the past several years, we have been updating the interior of the Library, and this Direct Install project enabled us to complete those improvements. We are very excited to see our backyard become a memorial for Marla as well as a usable space for our patrons.”
