Dry mouth can be caused by increasing age, breathing through your mouth while sleeping, the use of CPAP machine for sleep apnea, Sjogren’s syndrome, head and neck radiation, and most commonly medications. Over 1,800 medications both prescription and over-the-counter, state dry mouth as a side effect, especially antihistamines and antidepressants. Dry mouth can lead to interrupted sleep and allows bacteria to run rampant in the mouth.
