Home Lead Death Care in NJ

In most states in the US, individuals have the right to act as a funeral director for a loved one.  The family can keep their loved one at home, bathe and dress them, hold a home funeral or vigil, then transport the body to the final disposition, whether it be cremation or burial.  They can do all of this without being required to hire a stranger to take part.

According to NJ law, however, a family who wants to participate in home lead death care is required to hire a funeral director for several steps of this process, including filling out paperwork and being present at the final disposition.

I am taking part in a grassroots effort to make people aware that not only do they have the right to have a home funeral, but that we need to take a stand and secure our rights to do so without hiring anyone if we choose not to.
