Keyport-Matawan Elks Helps Our Veterans

Elks helping veterans

A follow up to our last article. The Keyport-Matawan Elks, with the money raised from canning, helped give 25 veterans a nice home cooked meal. These veterans were from the Lyons VA hospital, and were treated like royalty. As they came off the bus, there we Elk members there to greet them. Inside the lodge were more members to show them to their seats and to sit down with them and talk before dinner came out. Then out came the roast beef dinner with all the fixings. Out Antlers help sever the food to the veterans. Coffee and dessert followed dinner and all the veterans we full. Then it was time for presents. Each of the vets received a bag full of goodies to take back with them. Next was time for games and more presents that they were able to win. As they were leaving, they were all given another bag to take clothes home with them that was donated by the community. As all of them were leaving they could not thank the Elks enough for what they did. All of us at the lodge could say back to the is "Thank you for your service."

"Helping our Veterans are a huge part of what we as Elks do" says Robert Schworn, committee chairman. "We live by the motto of, As long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order Of the Elks will never forget them. We do this for them to thank them for their service and the smiles that they have when they leave are all the reward that we need."

If you would like to learn more of what the Elks do for our Veterans, or any of the other committees, stop down at the lodge. We will be happy to talk about what we do. Or visit our Facebook page Keyport-Matawan Elks #2030, or you can also visit us on the Web at KeyportMatawanElks.com.
