Keyport Police Chief Shannon Torres Elected To Sandy Hook Foundation
Keyport Police Chief Shannon Torres, who grew up in this area, was just named to the board of trustees for the Sandy Hook Foundation.

KEYPORT, NJ — Keyport Police Chief Shannon Torres was just named to the board of trustees for the Sandy Hook Foundation, the official non-profit partner of the National Park Service at Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook Unit.
As a member of the board, Torres will be responsible for supporting its mission to preserve and protect Sandy Hook’s natural and cultural resources, and enhance the visitor experience at Sandy Hook.
“The Sandy Hook Foundation proudly welcomes Shannon to our board. Her leadership in community service, combined with her professional leadership and passion for our national park, will strengthen our work as the official nonprofit partner to the National Park Service at Sandy Hook,” said Pete Izzo, chairman of the board of the Sandy Hook Foundation.

Torres began her military career with service in the Army National Guard. From there, she matriculated to the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department, which led to a 26-year career in law enforcement. Throughout her professional career, she has demonstrated leadership and excellence in law enforcement, leading to her current position as Chief of Police for Keyport borough.
Torres currently serves on the Bayshore Police Chiefs Association as Sergeant at Arms, and serves on the Monmouth County Police Chiefs Association Executive Board. She excels in orchestrating security plans for large-scale, high-volume events, said her colleagues.

Torres is originally from Keyport and currently resides in Monmouth County with her husband Nicholas, her children, Jordan and Xavier, and their three dogs.
She is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in public administration, and hopes to join the Certified Public Managers program.
"I am delighted to join the board of the Sandy Hook Foundation, and believe I can contribute to the park’s success by not only making connections through a broad network of community and municipal leaders, but also in supporting the work of the foundation to make the visitor experience to Sandy Hook the best it can be," said Torres.
Sandy Hook has sites rich in U.S. military history, including Fort Hancock, the Sandy Hook Proving Ground and the NIKE Missile Radar sites. Outdoor enthusiasts visiting the park enjoy sports and recreation; naturalists are eager to discover the abundant flora and fauna; and all those who love the miles of ocean and bayside beaches enjoy the waves of the Atlantic and soft currents of the bay. The Foundation plays an important role by supporting programs and projects that make visitors’ experiences better.
