Monmouth County Crash: Man Killed, Identified In 3-Car Parkway Fatality
Police have identified a New Jersey man who was killed in a three-car crash on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday.
Police have identified a New Jersey man who was killed in a three-car crash on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday. John Martorelli, 43, of the Port Monmouth section in Middletown, was killed Thursday after he was thrown from his Jeep in Aberdeen, police said.
A friend of Martorelli said John "was just a terrific guy. He was a great father really. I'm just shaken up by this."
Martorelli retired from the Coast Guard within the past few years and worked as an assistant manager at West Marine in Middletown and then in Woodbridge. "He excelled in the job. I'm really upset because he was a very bright young man," his friend said.

Martorelli struck two other cars and a guardrail before he was ejected, police said.

The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. at milepost 119.9 in Aberdeen. Local lanes were temporarily closed for the investigation.
