Man Hit By Taxi Near Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station, Dies Of Injuries
It is unknown what caused a taxi driver to veer off the road and hit a man walking at 6:20 a.m. last Wednesday. The man died.
MATAWAN, NJ — A man was hit by a car and killed last week near the Aberdeen-Matawan train station, said Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago.
The man was hit at 6:20 a.m. March 18; he was hit by a local taxi cab. Matawan Police responded to a 911 call to Railroad Plaza and Johnson Street.
The taxi driver, a man, was driving a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country west on Railroad Plaza when his car ran off the left-hand side of the road, striking a pedestrian and then a telephone pole, said the prosecutor.

The pedestrian was identified as Osvaldo Dantas, 62. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he died of his injuries at 3:53 p.m. that same day. The prosecutor's office said it is still trying to determine what town he lived in.
It is unknown what caused the taxi driver to veer off the road and hit the man. He remained at the scene and no charges or summonses have been filed, yet. An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Matawan Police Department remains active and ongoing.
