Matawan-Aberdeen Girl Scouts Bake Bread for Families at Thanksgiving

The girls will drop off the bread Tuesday at the Matawan United Methodist Church food pantry.

Here’s a great story to get you into this week’s Thanksgiving holiday spirit!

Girl Scout Troop #60403 of Matawan-Aberdeen baked loaves of bread for more than 100 families serviced by the food pantry at the Matawan United Methodist Church.

The girls dropped off the first 60 loaves of bread to the church last Thursday. The bread was distributed to the families at Friday morning’s food pantry hours, along with a Thanksgiving turkey and all the trimmings.

Troop #60403 will drop off the rest of the bread Tuesday morning and it will be distributed to families Tuesday night — just in time for Thanksgiving.

“In addition to baking the bread, the girls attached notes wishing the recipients happy holidays,” said troop leader Kimberly Yue. “The girls learned to bake, to give of themselves and to be thankful as well. We really couldn’t ask for more at this time of year!”

While Troop #60403 came up with the idea and organized the campaign, they had help from nine other troops in the area, Yue said, including Troops 936, 1334, 318, 1390, 134, 1927, 450, 1367, and 886.

“It was a joint effort and we could not have accomplished it without the help from everyone involved,” she said.

Good job, girls!
