Matawan Council Authorizes Drug-Free School Zone Map Update

After almost 25 years, Matawan’s Drug-Free Zone Map will receive an update with revised boundary lines.

In 1989, the borough approved and adopted a Drug-Free School Zone Map (School Safety Zone) prepared by its then engineering firm, Schoor & DePalma, depicting the location and boundaries of drug-free school zones, and making an official finding and record of the location and boundaries of such zones.

The Borough Council approved a resolution on Tuesday that allows its current engineering firm, T&M Associates, to update the map at a cost of $4,600.

On the map, each school property will be shown and will include a 1,000-foot buffer zone around the school as the identified  Drug-Free School Zones.

The map will then be distributed to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office and the chief administrative officer of the Matawan-Aberdeen Board of Education.
