Matawan Day to Mark 325th Anniversary of Town in October
The Recreation Committee wants it to go off with a boom.
After no fireworks for last year's Matawan Day and no fireworks for the last two Fourth of July celebrations, the recreation committee is hoping to honor the borough's 325th anniversary with a bang in October.
The Matawan Recreation Committee is going through the necessary procedures to secure fireworks, according to President of Chamber of Commerce Mike Moyers.
The Matawan Recreation Committee discussed the fireworks and other elements planned for Matawan day at their July 20 meeting.

The Committee plans to mark the road with chalk to help coordinate with the vendors, rides and games.
The borough will start to promote the day in about a month and focus on putting flyers at the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station, Route 34 and Main St. They want to emphasize that all rides are free.
At the last Matawan day a small beer garden, about 20 feet, was where beer could be legally consumed outdoors. However, the vendor does not plan to return due to poor sales, according to Moyers.
The committee is now seeking verbal commitment from local businesses to use their electricity.
Matawan Day is Oct. 15 from 2-8 p.m. with a rain date of Oct. 16.
