Matawan Huskies 12u American USABL Memorial Day 2014 Champions!

This past weekend the 12u Matawan Huskies competed in the 1st Annual United States Amateur League Memorial Day Classic. Their games were held at Marlbor Little League and Mannino Park on from
Friday nite th23rd til Monday the 26th.

In pool play the Huskies played the Marlboro Mustangs blue,CJ Hitmen and the Brooklyn Bulldogs Orange. Starting the tournament on a wet Friday evening in Marlboro the Huskies faced the Marlboro Mustangs.
The Huskies went out in front early only for the Mustangs to battle back and go ahead. With time running out the Huskies were able to tie the game only to fall by one in the bottom of the Inning.The Huskies regrouped the follow morning to face the CJ Hitmen at Mannino Park in Oldbridge. In a low scoring duel with the Huskies
down by 1 against the pitching of the hitmen  Mark Kawka of the Huskies slammed a 2 run Homerun out of the Park to give the Huskies the go ahead run. John Beukers threw a complete game, striking out 6 thowing only 51 pitches. The Huskies defense made some outstanding plays Nico Clark, Dylan Nugyen, and a gamesaving catch by Jack DeBold. Colin "the Cat" Meany caught the
the game throwing out 2 stealing. Hits by Nico clark and Darren Teixiera held by the intial runs on the board for the Huskies in their firat win of the Tournament. Sunday Late afternoon back in Marlboro being 1-1 the Huskies found themself in a win to get in situation facing an unknown Brooklyn team. Know they had to win and keep Brookyn from scoring many runs the bats of Matawan erupted. With homeruns coming from Mark Kawka, John Beukers and multiple hits form the rest of the pack including Anthony Aubain, Vincent Guarino, Jackson Aguilar, Devon Williams, Colin Meany,Dylan Nuygen and great pitching by Zach Gelo the Huskies were able to put down the Bulldogs of Brooklyn 14-1 to seed 2 in the playoffs. Monday morning the Huskies were faced with a rematch against a determined CJ Hitmen team inwhich they defeated in pool play. In the battle of two hard throwing pitchers the Huskies struck first playing small ball. With the will to make it to the championship Mark "The Hawk" Kawka along with hard throwing John Beukers both hit back to back Homers to lead the Huskies to the championship. Defensive plays by all including a down the line shot to Jackson Aguilar who threw out the runner at second base.
The stage was set for the Huskies to face the undefeated Brick American Bulldogs. The Huskies called upon their smart throwing lefty Zach Gelo to hold off a strong Brick team. Holding a 3 2/3's inning shutout and a 1 run lead the Brick American team awoke scoring 8 unanswered runs putting the huskies behind 8-1. with 2 innings to go the Huskies went with Chris Dietrich,Dylan Nugen on the mound to hold off a tough hitting Brick Bulldog team who were determined to put away the Huskies. But that wouldnt happen!!! The Huskies put together an incredible 2 inning come back scoring 9 runs stunning the Brick team with hits by multiple players including another BOMB! by Mark Kawka. John Beukers determind to help finalize the win came in to close out the win upsetting the Brick Bulldogs 10-8 and winning the Championship for the holiday weekend.
The Matawan players are Dylan Nuygen, Darren Tiexera, Chris Dietrich, Nico Clark, John Beukers, Mark Kawka, Jack DeBold, Colin Meany, Zach Gelo, Anthony Aubain, Vincent Guarino, Jackson Aguilar and Devon Williams coached by Barry Chaskes,Joe Debold,Mike Meany, Dante Aubain and Ken Dietrich.
