Meet At Aberdeen Seawall/Cliffwood Beach Shore For 9/11 Service
The plan is to have thousands of people along the waterfront hold their cell phones up at exactly 8:46 p.m. on Sept. 11. Spread the word.
ABERDEEN, NJ — This year will be the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and everyone in Monmouth County is invited to "light up the shoreline," by gathering at the water's edge at 8:46 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 with either a candle, their cell phone or another light source.
The plan is to have thousands of people along the waterfront hold their cell phone up or a candle at exactly 8:46 p.m., 12 hours after the first plane flew into the North Tower twenty years ago on that date.
This massive, county-wide event is being planned by Monmouth County, but individual towns are telling residents where to meet at that date and time.

In Aberdeen, residents should meet on the sea wall and at on the beach at Cliffwood Beach. Aberdeen Twp. also invites any residents who live in western Monmouth towns (Morganville, Marlboro, Holmdel) to come to their waterfront for the event.
"We are proud to be participating in Monmouth County’s plan to 'Light up the Shore' to honor the heroes of 9/11. On top of that, we are inviting any of our nearby communities to join us on our Seawall and on Cliffwood Beach," said Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini. "There is ample parking at Veterans Memorial Park right across the street. We hope to see you there so that together as one united community we can mourn and celebrate."

The event is being held in conjunction with 53 municipalities in Monmouth County. Residents who plan to attend can check with their local officials about specific plans in town.
Aberdeen will also host its own Sept. 11 memorial service at 12 p.m. that same day, Sept. 11, at Aberdeen Town Hall. All are invited.
"Our 9/11 memorial service will be at 12 noon and we are going to set up a table with some food inside town hall. The service will be at our 9/11 memorial steel outside," said Tagliarini.
