Over 90 people participated at Temple Shalom’s Mitzvah Day on Sunday, May 5th. Activities included preparing gift bags filled with a book, bubbles, snacks and toiletry items for the Monmouth Day Care in Red Bank; preparing Happy Snack packs for Lunch Break in Red Bank; sending cards to congregants and others who are currently in the hospital and packing 33 backpacks with food for delivery to the three schools that participate in the Temple’s Backpack Buddies program.

The 4th Grade Mitzvah Day project was to visit The Atrium, an assisted living facility to talk to and play games with the residents. The fifth grade wrote letters and drew pictures that will be sent to the children in an orphanage in Honduras. Sixth and seventh graders assisted Rabbi Malinger in the mitzvah of burying old prayer books according to certain rituals.

One volunteer, Nolan Willence, played flamenco and classical guitar for residents at the Atrium.
