Monmouth County Man Charged With Death By Auto

Prosecutors say a Marlboro man lost control of a sport utility vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit two trees. His passenger died.

A Marlboro resident has been charged with death by auto in connection with a crash last month in Middlesex County that claimed the life of his passenger, authorities said.

Thomas Daya, 54, of the Morganville section of Marlboro has been charged in connection with the May 31 crash on Spring Valley Road in Old Bridge, according to a news release from Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Old Bridge Police Chief William Volkert.

Tina Rouse, 41, of Newark, died from injuries she sustained in the crash, authorities said.

According to the news release:

Investigators determined Daya was driving a 2014 Ford Explorer when he lost control of the vehicle around 11:20 a.m., crossed into on-coming traffic and struck two trees.

Rouse, who was in the front passenger seat, was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, where she was pronounced dead.

Daya’s bail has been set at $100,000. He remains at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he is being treated for injuries he suffered in the crash.

Old Bridge Officer John Bulin and Detective Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office handled the investigation, which is continuing. Anyone with information about it asked to call Bulin at (732) 721-5600 or Heck at (732) 745-3711.
