Annual Choir Festival Reaches Across Faiths To Fund Manna
House
MATAWAN — Gospel, folk and
classical music will fill the air during the annual Music Fest celebration and
fund-raiser, featuring musicians from Monmouth County houses of worship, on
Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Keyport.
The annual
event, which raises money for Manna House, will host lively selections to be
performed by singers and instrumentalists from area houses of worship. This
year’s participants include First Presbyterian, Matawan; St. John’s United
Methodist Church, Hazlet; New Light Baptist Church, Keyport; and Cross of Glory
Lutheran Church, Matawan, along with many others.

The individual
houses of worship will each present two pieces with varied combinations of
instruments, piano and organ. In addition, all singers will join as one
choir to open the evening by performing a round. Concluding the evening’s program will be additional pieces highlighting
the combined choirs.
A
free-will offering will be taken to support the work of Manna House, a transitional housing
program for women and children who would otherwise be homeless. Its programs allow women to move from dependency
and homelessness to self-sufficiency and hope.
