Narcan Save In Aberdeen This Week

Police were called to a home on Iona Place last Saturday, April 29 for a reported heroin overdose.

ABERDEEN, NJ — Police were called to a home on Iona Place last Saturday, April 29 for a reported heroin overdose, according to Aberdeen Township police. Narcan was administered and the 27-year-old male victim was revived and transported to Bayshore Community Hospital. Narcan has been used more than 144 times in Monmouth County so far this year, according to the county prosecutor's office. Most of the people it was used on were saved, but there were still 11 overdose deaths even after use of naloxone.

Narcan was used an incredible 424 times total in 2016 in Monmouth County. There were 164 overdose deaths in Monmouth County last year, mostly from heroin and other opiates. Of those, 35 people had received Narcan but still fatally overdosed.

In addition to that incident, here are the other arrests and incidents in Aberdeen Township from April 26 through May 2:

  • Michael J. Grillo, 20, Aberdeen, was arrested on a contempt warrant issued by the Monmouth County Superior Court after he was found in Storyland Park on April 28. P.O. Bart Szulczynski was the arresting officer.
  • On April 29 a 32-year-old township man was arrested on a contempt warrant out of Aberdeen municipal court. P.O. Bruce Monro was the arresting officer.
  • On May 2 a 26-year-old township man was arrested on a contempt warrant out of Roselle Park municipal court. P.O. Gus Grivas was the arresting officer.
  • On May 2 a 40-year-old Keansburg woman was arrested on a contempt warrant out of Keyport municipal court following a motor vehicle stop on Salem Place. P.O. John Zeller was the arresting officer.

Other police activity during that period included:

  • On April 26 P.O. Gus Grivas responded to a report of harassment at Ken Gardens on Matawan Ave.
  • On April 26 a resident of County Rd. reported three of the tires on his vehicle had been flattened. P.O. Hank Chevalier took the report.
  • P.O. Hank Chevalier responded to a report of a suspicious male subject looking into residents’ mailboxes at Ken Gardens on Matawan Ave. on April 26.
  • On April 27 a Marshall Concourse resident reported that an individual claiming to be a Medicare representative had contacted her asking for her banking information. The information was used to withdraw funds from the victim’s bank account. P.O. Gus Grivas took the report.
  • On April 27 a resident of Ken Gardens reported the theft of prescription medication. P.O. John Young responded.
  • On April 29 P.O. Craig Hausmann responded to a report of harassment on Woodmere Drive.
  • On April 29 a resident of Ken Gardens reported he had received an e-mail notifying him he had been approved for a loan. He gave the supposed company his information and he was then instructed to purchase $700 worth of Itunes cards and read the numbers to the representative. As part of the scam he was threatened with arrest if he did not buy additional cards to complete the transaction. P.O. Darryl Richardson took the report.
  • P.O. Frank Maisano responded to a report of a violation of a restraining order on Dumbarton Hill Court on April 30.
  • On April 30 P.O. Matthew McDow responded to a report of harassment on Fairfield Way.
  • On May 1 a resident of Chelsea Village, Cross Rd., reported the theft of a license plate. P.O. Mary Johnston responded.
  • P.O. Raymond Campbell responded to a report of harassment at Chelsea Village, Cross Rd. on May 1.

Officers responded to or initiated 268 calls for service between April 26 and May 2, 2017, including 18 suspicious persons/vehicles; 21 alarms; 16 first aid calls; five domestic violence incidents, 12 motor vehicle crashes, two thefts, two frauds, one criminal mischief incident, and 87 motor vehicle stops. Officers issued 57 motor vehicle summonses.
