New Details Released In Fatal Aberdeen Parkway Crash

The crash occurred at 10:44 a.m. Saturday: State Police say an 88-year-old driver was attempting to drive across all three Parkway lanes:

ABERDEEN, NJ — Released by NJ State Police Monday morning, here is more information on the fatal car crash on the Garden State Parkway in Aberdeen this past weekend.

This is the crash that took the life of an 88-year-old West Orange woman, identified as Joan Butler.

The crash was reported to police at 10:44 a.m. Saturday, and it occurred in the Parkway local lanes southbound at mile marker 120.5 in Aberdeen Township.

A preliminary investigation by State Police showed that a car, a Ford, was stopped on the right shoulder.

The Ford's driver, the 88-year-old West Orange woman, attempted to maneuver the vehicle across all three lanes of travel, and was struck by a Lexus NX, said police. Butler sustained serious injuries and was taken to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Lexus, a 49-year-old man from Middlesex borough, sustained minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
