SAYREVILLE, NJ — As of Tuesday, there are still no arrests made in the shooting death of Eunice Dwumfour, the Sayreville councilwoman who was fatally shot multiple times shortly after 7 p.m. last Wednesday as she pulled in to park at her apartment in the Camelot at La Mer complex.

The FBI is now involved in the case, aiding the Sayreville Police and Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. And on Sunday, the Sayreville Police Department put out a call on their Facebook page for the public's help in solving the case.

Specifically, Sayreville Police are looking for video footage from the Camelot apartment complex the night Dwumfour was shot:

"My angel, you promised to see me by May," wrote her husband, Eze Kings. "I know you breath (sic) through me. I will continue to celebrate you as I have promised you. I miss you my love."

Kings was identified by NJ Advance Media/NJ.com as the Nigerian man Dwumfour had married in recent months. Kings also posted photos from their wedding on his Facebook page. He currently lives in Nigeria.

There will also be a public memorial service for Dwumfour at 6 p.m. Wednesday night, Feb. 8 at Epic Church International in Sayreville (2707 Main Street Extension, Sayreville NJ 09972). Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick and the Sayreville Town Council invite anyone from the public to attend.

Dwumfour was intended target of shooting; still no arrests made

It was 7:22 p.m. Wednesday when Sayreville Police received the 911 call reporting shots fired on Samuel Circle inside Camelot at La Mer apartments.

Dwumfour was inside her white Nissan SUV when she was hit with multiple rounds of gunfire.

Neighbors in the complex told NJ.com they heard six shots, and then saw her SUV roll down a hill and collide with multiple parked cars before finally coming to a stop.

Authorities believe she was the intended target of the shooting. Neighbors also told NJ.com the shooter appeared to target her car, stopping and opening fire into the SUV before driving away.

When police got there, they found Dwumfour slain, sitting in the driver's seat. She had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Dwumfour was the daughter of African immigrant parents, grew up in Newark and moved to Sayreville about five years ago. She was raising a single child, her pre-teen daughter, alone in Sayreville as a single mother.

She had just been elected to the Sayreville town Council in 2021. She was a Republican woman who was strongly guided by her deep Christian faith. She was very involved in the Christian church and had just become a pastor at the Champion Royal Assembly in Newark, NJ.com reported. Her husband in Nigeria was also a Christian pastor.

Sayreville Republican Party Chair Karen Bailey-Bebert said Dwumfour had no political enemies and was not pushing any controversial legislation.

"None that I'm aware of," she said.

"She was happy with her new husband. It seems. Happy with her daughter, and she was living the life, the American dream. She was a beautiful motivated person, who did very well in the community," Bailey-Bebert told ABC 7. "I believe her daughter lit up her life. Jesus Christ lit up her life. She was very faithful and driven. She was a shining star."

Her newly elected position as a Councilwoman was her first foray into public life. On her LinkedIn profile, she describes herself as a business analyst seeking career opportunities.
