Matawan will not be hosting a firework show on the Fourth of July for the second year in a row, but here is a list of fireworks in the area.
The Matawan Borough Council and Recreation Director Joseph Altomonte point to financial and time constraints.
"Last year, it was a combinatin of no where to shoot them off at and financial restrictions," Altomonte said. "We tried to do it for this Fourth of July. The church was voted on and they were possibly going to let us shoot them off."

By the time the First Presbyterian Church on Route 34 in Matawan had offered their space to the town and the location had been voted on and approved, there was not enough time to plan for the event, according to Altomonte.
"I just said let's secure the site for next year and begin plans for that," said Altomonte.

To have a firework show, the town must put out for a bid and have a minimum of three companies respond. The company must then be chosen and voted on. Additionally, the proper fire and health permits for the firework company and permits for any vendors must be applied for and issued, according to Altomonte.
According to Councilwoman Clifton, who oversees the Recreation, Redevelopment, Historic Sites, Technology Committee, the town is hoping to have fireworks for Matawan Day in October to commemorate the 325th anniversary of Matawan.
