Old Bridge Getting A New Splash Pad And Walking Trails
Old Bridge plans to turn the Cottrell Farm property into a community garden, walking/fitness trails, a splash pad, a picnic area and more:
OLD BRIDGE, NJ — On Wednesday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced the state will invest more than $100 million in urban parks and playground improvements across the state.
Here are the following plans for Middlesex County:
Old Bridge: Old Bridge would develop the Cottrell Farm property over four phases. Phases 2 through 4 propose a walking/fitness trail, splash pad, community/memorial garden, gazebo and picnic grove with pavilion, playground, amphitheater, parking improvements, various landscaping upgrades, stormwater management improvements and a restroom building.

Cottrell Farm is a former 21-acre apple orchard at the intersection of Cottrell Road and Rt. 516 in Old Bridge.
Edison: The Township plans to acquire an 11.5-acre parcel in Edison to create a waterfront park along the Raritan River.

Perth Amboy: The Veterans Memorial Youth League Complex in Perth Amboy would see multiple improvements including the conversion of four grass baseball fields to synthetic turf multi-purpose fields for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse. An expanded patio and picnic area with a shade structure, sheltered dugouts, scoreboards, landscaping, fencing, stormwater management improvements and a walking trail connecting to Willow Pond Park are also proposed.
All of these towns applied for state funding for these project as part of the Green Acres Program.
It remains unknown when work will begin on any of these plans, but they have been granted funding by the state.
