Old Bridge Library Offers Ancestry.com To Patrons

Patrons can search their genealogy for free at the Library branches

The Old Bridge Public Library is offering patrons interested in their lineage a valuable research tool with free access to Ancestry.com, effective July 1st. The site hosts the world’s largest online collection of family history records, currently over 12 billion US records, with an average of two million records added to the site daily.

Library patrons can begin researching their family history, creating family trees and viewing and posting photographs by visiting the Library’s central or Laurence Harbor branches and accessing the site on the public computers.

“Many of us are fascinated by our family lineage and are anxious to learn more about our ancestors,” noted Library Director Nancy Cohen. “We are sure our patrons will love exploring these sites and gaining a better understanding of their heritage.”

Users can access records dating back to the late 1300s. The first Ancestry.com site was launched in 1996 and the organization now administers websites for residents of the US, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden and Mexico. It is the world’s largest online family history resource with more than two million subscribers across all its websites.

On average, over 75 million searches are handled by the site’s servers every day.  Ancestry.com will soon release over 170 million name-searchable images of probate and wills records. Ancestry’s professional research group, AncestryProGenealogists, supports shows such as “Who Do You Think You Are?,” “Genealogy Roadshow” and “Finding Your Roots.”
