Parlin Woman Dies Of Serious Head Trauma After Rt. 18 Crash With Tractor Trailer

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A Parlin woman who was involved in a serious three-vehicle crash March 8 on Rt. 18 has died of her injuries.

Arleen Marmol de Ortiz, 27, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died, said a spokesman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor.

Marmol de Ortiz was critically injured after she was involved in a car crash on Rt. 18 in New Brunswick. The crash happened at 10:15 p.m., a Sunday, at the intersection of Rt. 18 and Paulus Boulevard.

Marmol was driving a BMW, which police say collided with a tractor trailer. Her fiance, a 27-year-old man also from Parlin, was driving an Infiniti Q50, and his car was also involved in the crash. He suffered minor injuries.

Marmol de Ortiz was initially transported to JFK Medical Center for serious head injuries, but then transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital due to how serious her injuries were. She died at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on March 14.

The couple was planning their wedding later this year, according to this GoFundMe set up by Ortiz's grieving family. They were planning to be married in July. She was also studying to become a midwife, which was her dream career, read the fundraising page. Here is her obituary.

The driver of the tractor trailer did not sustain any serious injuries from the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
