Perth Amboy Woman, 35, Killed In I-287 Crash

The 35-year-old woman was killed after the car she was in tried to illegally pass another car on 287 Tuesday night, said police:

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Perth Amboy woman was killed in a two-car crash on I-287 in Bridgewater Tuesday night, according to NJ State Police.

Four other people were seriously injured in the crash.

The woman who was killed was identified as Lissanne Reyes Mejia, 35, of Perth Amboy.

At around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-287 south, an Infiniti and a Nissan were driving in the local lanes when the Infiniti drove off the left side of the road to illegally pass the Nissan, said State Police Sgt. Philip Curry.

After getting back on the highway, the Infiniti hit the left front of the Nissan, he said. After the initial impact, the Infiniti drove across all lanes, ran off the road to the right and drove up an embankment before hitting multiple trees.

The Perth Amboy woman was a passenger in the Infiniti, said State Police. The driver of the Infiniti, Felipe Exposito-Sanchez, 24, of Linden, had serious injuries, as did his other three passengers.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured as a result of the crash.

The local lanes of I-287 southbound were closed for about five hours Tuesday night because of this crash.
