Police In Monmouth County Seek Witnesses To Crash That Injured Two Drivers

Police say a Middletown woman drove through a red light Monday afternoon near the Holmdel Towne Center.

Holmdel police are seeking witnesses to a Monday afternoon motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Laurel Avenue and Banyan Boulevard.

Around 2:45 p.m., Bernadette Alexander, 45, of Middletown, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet south on Laurel Avenue, according to a news release from Lt. Michael Pigott.

She drove through a red light at the intersection and her vehicle hit a 2012 Toyota, whose driver, Ching Shih, 65, of Holmdel, was pulling out of the Holmdel Towne Center, the news release said.

Police said they issued a summons to Alexander, charging her with failure to observe a traffic signal.

The two drivers were taken to Bayshore Community Hospital by the Holmdel and the Hazlet first aid squads for treatment of their injuries.

The Holmdel Fire Company and MONOC paramedics also assisted. Police ask that witnesses to the crash to call Patrolman Joe Van Pelt at 732-­946-­4400.
