On Thursday, Hazlet police received reports from several residents who said they were targets of a phone scam.
According to the department’s Facebook page:

The residents told police they received fake, recorded phone calls that purported to be coming from Bank of America.
A recorded phone message said their debit cards had been compromised, then instructed the victims to input their card’s PIN numbers and their Social Security numbers.

Police said the Hazlet residents did not fall for the scam, but they said they wanted to warn other residents against providing their bank PIN numbers or Social Security numbers to callers.
