While we would have preferred to provide a more detailed statement to you yesterday, we were unable to do so based upon the direction given to us by the Office of the Middlesex County Prosecutor. Nonetheless, the decision to cancel and ultimately forfeit yesterday evening’s varsity football game against South Brunswick, as well as the freshman football game scheduled for yesterday afternoon, and the junior varsity game scheduled for this Monday afternoon, was made due to significant allegations that were brought to the attention of the high school and district administration, which if true, would indicate that inappropriate conduct of a very serious nature had taken place within the high school football program.
Since this is an ongoing investigation that is being conducted by the Sayreville Police Department in conjunction with the Office of the Middlesex County Prosecutor, we are prohibited from sharing the limited details of the investigation that we are aware of and thus ask that all questions pertaining to it be addressed to each respective law enforcement agency. Furthermore, we also ask that any students or parents of students that might have information pertaining to any form of inappropriate conduct that may have taken place within the football program, contact the Sayreville Police Department (732-727-4444) or the Office of the Middlesex County Prosecutor (732-745-3600).
