Rutgers University Fraternity Shut Down After Intoxicated Student Was Taken To The Hospital
The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity chapter at Rutgers has been suspended by its national headquarters, according to a published report.

A Rutgers University fraternity has been closed, months after a severely intoxicated student was taken to the hospital, according to NJ.com.
The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity chapter at Rutgers has been suspended by its national headquarters, which has no immediate plans to reinstate it, and without that backing, it is no longer recognized by Rutgers, the newspaper reported.
The fraternity was already suspended by Rutgers after a 20-year-old intoxicated fraternity member was taken to the hospital in November, according to NJ.com.

In a statement, Rutgers spokesman E.J. Miranda said there are 86 recognized fraternities and sororities at Rutgers and they are expected to maintain the standards set by the Code of Student Conduct. The school takes measures to ensure they operate within those standards, he said.
“Rutgers is committed to maintaining a healthy and safe campus environment and takes alcohol and other substance abuse by students very seriously,’’ he said.
