Sayreville Police Used Taser-Type Device On Woman Friday

Police used a Taser-type device on a woman Friday in Sayreville after police say she approached officers brandishing a butcher knife:

SAYREVILLE, NJ — Police used a Taser-type device on a woman Friday afternoon in Sayreville after police say she approached police officers brandishing a large butcher-style knife, and did not comply with officers' requests to put the knife down.

This occurred at 1 p.m. Friday, say police, in the area of Lakeview Drive and Washington Road in Sayreville:

Police were called there for a 911 call of a woman lying in the roadway. When officers got there, the woman was no longer lying in the road, but she approached the officers brandishing the knife.

"Officers talked to the woman and tried to convince her to put the knife down. She did not comply," said Sayreville Police in a statement on Facebook. "Officers used a conducted energy device to subdue the woman. She was secured and transported to police headquarters."

Sayreville Police say there were children in the area. Sayreville Police did not identify the woman by name or if she was criminally charged with anything.

Patch asked Sayreville Police if the woman was given medical attention after being Tased, and what her medical status and location is as of Monday morning, but we did not get an immediate answer.
