Matawan Police Chief Confirms Shooting Incident

An incident occurred in Matawan borough early Wednesday evening.

MATAWAN, NJ - Police are currently investigating an incident involving a firearm in Matawan borough Wednesday evening, and one person has been shot.

There was only one victim, Matawan police Chief Jason Gallo said. According to a statement Gallo released on Facebook, the shooting was confined to one household and there was only one victim.

"I will confirm that there has been an incident within the borough involving a firearm. The incident is contained to one household, one victim and there are no suspects at large," he wrote. "Out of respect for those associated with this unfortunate incident I will comment no further at this time."

According to unconfirmed reports, police have requested a medevac helicopter for the injured party.
