South Amboy Man Charged With DWI In Lakehurst

LAKEHURST, NJ — A Middlesex County man has been charged with assault by auto and drunken driving after a Rt. 37 crash that injured another driver, police said.

Christopher J. Rand, 28, of South Amboy, was arrested this past Saturday, Jan. 5 following the 6 a.m. crash that happened at the Lakehurst Circle, Lakehurst police said.

Rand was driving a 2009 Volkswagen and wound up driving the wrong direction on the shoulder of Route 37, said Police Officer Robert Schroeck, who responded to the crash. In the process, he hit another vehicle, causing injuries to that driver. Rand's car ended up disabled on the grass median in the circle.

Rand was found to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and arrested. He was charged with fourth-degree assault by auto, driving while intoxicated and issued six motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to exhibit insurance, unregistered vehicle and failure to inspect.

He was processed and released pending mandatory court appearances.
