Teaching Children About Music, Reading, & Giving Back

Parents can talk about charity and giving with children for hours, but seeing what mom and dad actually do to make the world a better place is how they will learn to give.  As explained by Executive Director of Young Philantropists Foundation (YPF) Alexis Boian  “The number one place children learn to give is in the home. When asked by parents how to ‘teach’ giving, my first response is always ‘What do you do to give back?’ and ‘Do they see you do it? Is there an opportunity for them to do it with you?’ Creating a culture of giving in the home is very important.”

What we know at Music Together, is that it is truly the adult model, the person with whom the child is emotionally attached, that a child will want to emulate.  If you want your child to read, read to your child.  If you want your child to learn music, and sing, then sing and play musically with them.  If you want your child to be a giving person and learn about charitable giving, bring them with you when you make a donation of food, books, personal toiletry items, clothing….whatever you choose to donate.

By joining us on Friday, June 20th at our Singalong Storytime event, you can accomplish all three of these things. Matawan Music Together & Manda's Music Together are joining forces to help collect food for Freehold Area Open Door Food Pantry* and donations for JBJ Soul Kitchen** with this fun filled musical event!   Help us bring storybooks to life through SONG!  We will "sing" through beautifully illustrated picture books based on songs from Music Together's award-winning Family Favorites CDs, as well as some other traditional tunes you may already know.  Let us inspire you to support pre-literacy learning, music development, and imaginative play while spending quality family time together and supporting two fantastic local organizations!
