SPOTLIGHT PLAYERS IS PROUD TO PRESENT:
THE LEAF – A NEW MUSICAL DRAMA with
book and lyrics by Tobias Weissman,
revised by Tobi Lee Sigona and music
by Sam Levine.
The Leaf, was first
performed by Passaic High School students at the high school in June 2012 where
Tobias himself played the main role. The score for the new production includes
new songs such as "A Brief Glance" and "Twinkle Twinkle,"
as well as classic songs including “Yisrolik” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”
The story behind this play is mostly
based on Tobias's childhood in Brighton Beach in the 1950s and his
understanding of his mother's past. His mother Edith was a survivor of the
holocaust where she lost her son Mordechai and was separated from her husband
Meyer for years. After the war was over, Edith remarried, moved to Brighton
Beach and had Tobias along with two sisters. After many years Tobias learned
about his mother's past, and wrote "The Leaf" in a tribute to his mother's
memory and the 6,000,000 other lives lost in the Holocaust.
