Town-Wide Aberdeen Day Slated for Saturday, September 23

Aberdeen Day 2017, the township's annual town-wide celebration, will take place on Sept. 23 featuring a host of events around town.

Mayor Fred Tagliarini and the Aberdeen Township Council have announced that Aberdeen Day 2017, the township’s annual town-wide celebration, will take place on Saturday, September 23, featuring events at Matawan Regional High School and additional locations around town. This year, for the first time, Aberdeen Day will feature The Township of Aberdeen Carnival taking place from Friday evening to Sunday at Guisti Field.

Free shuttle service will once again be offered between venues and the overflow parking lot at the Aberdeen-Matawan train station.

Aberdeen Day will start at 8 a.m. with the annual Family Fishing Contest at Veterans Memorial Park Beach (Fisherman’s Parking Lot) in Cliffwood Beach, followed by the Cambridge Park 5k Run/Walk for Owen to raise funds to build a playground for all children but specifically those five and under, as well as children with disabilities. Registration begins at the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station at 7:00 a.m. and the race starts at 8:45 a.m.

The Run/Walk will be followed by the 15th Annual Yard Sale, Bake Sale & Snack Shack BBQ hosted by Cross of Glory Lutheran Church from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The church is located at 95 Cambridge Drive.

Special business-sponsored events, including entertainment, free food tastings, and sidewalk sales will take place at two shopping centers on Routes 34. At the Stop & Shop center, DeMarco’s Catering and Gourmet Deli will present free food and entertainment, while at Aberdeen Town Square, Livoti’s will present free food and games. Special promotions will be offered by various other merchants.

The 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. celebration at Matawan Regional High School will remain the primary attraction, hosting longtime favorites including: activities for children, musical and dance performances by the Providence Baptist Church Choir, Junction 13, Painted Young and A Touch of Dance along with a classic car show, crafts, food, vendor booths, informational displays by local non-profit organizations and more. Platinum sponsors of the high school events are: Columbia Bank, NorthEast Spine & Sports Medicine, PMC Associates, and Shamrock Construction.

Meanwhile, from noon to 4:00 p.m., the Sigismondi Cliffwood Beach Community Center (651 Prospect Ave. in Cliffwood Beach) will feature an appearance by Jeremy Kerley of the New York Jets from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Leonard Marshall of the New York Giants from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. along with a performance by Emotion in Motion Dancers at 3:30 p.m.

Aberdeen Day 2017 is being coordinated by The Aberdeen Recreation Department and the Aberdeen Economic Business Council.
