Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo or BPPV is the most common cause of vertigo.
BPPV is characterized by brief periods of vertigo (when it feels like the room is spinning) triggered by a change in the position of person's head relative gravity. This disorder can significantly interfere with an individuals quality of life and is associated with reduced activities of daily living, falls, and depression. There are 2 primary theories for the mechanism of BPPV know as cupulolithiasis and canalithiasis both of which refer to dsyfunction of 1 or more of the 3 semicircular canals within the inner ear.
ProForm Physical Therapy has partnered with the New Jersey Balance center to provide comprehensive testing, overseen by a Medical Doctor, to detect the presence of BPPV with Videonystamography or VNG testing. This break through and non-invasive testing procedure can accurately diagnose BPPV or other related balance disorders. Visit www.njbalancecenter.com to learn more.
