You Can Now Drop Off Unused Medicine At Matawan Police HQ

There is an ongoing problem with teenagers and even adults finding and abusing old prescription medicine, especially opiate painkillers.

MATAWAN, NJ — The Matawan police department just installed a Project Medicine Drop Box at police headquarters (150 Main Street).

This will make it easier and more convenient than ever for Matawan borough residents to take an active role in the fight against the nationwide epidemic of opiate and heroin abuse, which is often fueled by the abuse of prescription painkillers. The box is a place where Matawan residents, or residents from the surrounding towns, can drop off their unused medicine at any time, with no questions asked.

The Project Medicine Drop Box is located at Matawan Police Headquarters, 150 Main Street, Matawan. Residents may visit the Matawan Police Department at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to dispose of their unused or excess medications.

“Project Medicine Drop is a natural addition to our commitment to help improve the public safety and quality of life in Matawan Borough. It will encourage our residents to be fully aware of the potential for abuse presented by otherwise beneficial medications,” said Matawan Police Chief Thomas J. Falco Jr.
