16-Year-Old Succumbs to Battle With Cancer

Chester's Johnny Seel passed away at his home Sunday morning.

The community lost a son too soon this week, as 16-year-old Jonathan “Johnny” Seel succumbed to his battle with cancer on Sunday.

Seel died at his home in Chester where he grew up and lived his entire life, according to his obituary from William J. Leber Funeral Home in Chester.

Seel graduated Black River Middle School and was currently a high school sophomore. Seel enjoyed baseball, comics, and target shooting, his obituary said. He is survived by his parents Edith Edwards Seel and Mark Seel, and siblings Abigail and Mason.

Chester held numerous fundraisers for the teen in previous years, including a teachers vs. students basketball game.

All funeral arrangements were privately held.
