3 Chester School Board Incumbents Won't Run for Re-Election

Mendham Borough K-8 district needs two more candidates; Mendham Township sees business as usual.

No matter what shakes out in November, the Chester School District board of education will have a very, very different look when it reorganizes in January.

Three seats are up for grabs on the nine-member board, and all three incumbents – Nathan Treff, Ray Trevisan, and Angelo Pennisi – did not file for re-election.

The 4 p.m. Monday deadline to file a petition to be placed on the November ballot was met by two newcomers, according to the county clerk. Those two are Christopher Lowery and Elizabeth Madinabeitia.

Residents can put together a write-in campaign for the third and final available seat on the November ballot. A candidate would need a minimum of 10 write-in votes to win. If a write-in candidate is not appointed, the executive county superintendent will then appoint a school board member.

Each of the three seats come with three-year terms.

The Mendham Borough school district will face a similar issue, as just one incumbent has filed to run for re-election with three open seats. No newcomers have jumped into the fray, while Paul Felchelm seeks another term. All three seats come with three-year terms.

It will be business as usual in Mendham Township’s school district, as two incumbents – Jeffrey Brauner and Jocelyn DeGrendpre, the current vice president – will seek re-election unopposed. Both terms are for three years.

This is Mendham Township’s first year voting for school board candidates in November after it moved its election earlier this year.

The General Election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 4.
