50 Year Chester Resident Passes Away

Richard M. Congdon called Chester home for half a century. He was 76.

Richard M. Congdon, 76, of Chester, NJ passed away on January 27, 2018 at his home. Richard was born in Passaic, NJ to the late E. Lester and Grace Congdon. He grew up in Verona, NJ and has lived in Chester for 50 years. He was the Owner/Operator of E L Congdon & Sons Lumber Co. in West Orange, NJ and proudly carried on the family business which his father started over 75 years ago. Richard was an avid fan of the old NY Giants baseball team, NY Rangers, and NY football Giants. He enjoyed golfing, reading, building and maintaining his rock wall structures. Most of all Richard had a servant heart, and was a kind and Godly man devoted to his family and to his church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Beverly (Snyder) Congdon; two sons, Brent Richard Congdon, and Seth Christian Congdon; four grandchildren, Seamus Richard Congdon, Bruce Liam Congdon, Jake Edward Slosarik-Congdon, and Malachy Timber Congdon; sister, Patricia Wightman; and by many other loving family members and friends.

Richard’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on Tuesday January 30, 2018 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090 15 Furnace Rd. (corner of rt. 206) Chester, NJ 07930. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 31 2018 at 11am at the First Congregational Church in Chester. Interment will follow at the First Congregational Church Cemetery next to the Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church PO Box 125 Chester, NJ 07930.
