Alstede's Rewards CSA Customers With Breakfast

First annual event for the Community Supported Agriculture participants.

All season, Alstede Farms has been providing its Community Supported Agriculture Participants (CSA) with the raw materials to make delicious, local cuisine.

On Saturday, Nov. 17 Alstede's took it one step further by offering a prepared breakfast for those who participarted in the program.

"This was a great event," said resident and newest member of the Chester Board of Education Mike Tomasco. "Supporting local farming is important for the residents of Chester."

The basic idea of CSA farming is a cooperative relationship between a farm and their customers. Based on an annual commitment, community members provide a pre-season payment to purchase a “share” of the season’s harvest. The member then receives a weekly box of a wide variety of fresh vegetables and fruit through the growing season. The program is meant to promote buying local and offers fruits and vegetables grown right in Chester.

Those interested in the program have time to register for next season now. And by the looks of the breakfast attendees, it might be prudent to commit early.

"They had 400 people RSVP," Tomasco said. "Great turnout for the first annual event."
